About

I am Genice, founder of Street Hype in Birmingham since 2008. I teach the Thursday Street dance classes and started my dance journey in 1988 training in Disco/Freestyle at competitive level, Ballet and Contemporary. In 1998, I successfully qualified as a Professional teacher in Street Dance / Hip Hop with the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD). I became a member of Street Dance International (SDI), who qualify dancers to compete for Great British and World Championship titles in the UK and worldwide. From then I opened La Danse Studio teaching Freestyle and Street training dancers from Beginners to Championship to compete across the country.

In 2008, I decided to solely specialise in Street Dance and Street Hype was formed with the support and assistance of Charlene Henry – Class administrator and dance teacher, also former student of La Danse Studio. Dancers were trained to compete at all levels.

In 2016 i decided to break from Birmingham and rendered the dance classes to Charlene. To date Charlene continues to own and run Street Hype in Birmingham successfully. 2017, saw Street Hype classes start in Walsall.

I am a commitee member and promoter for SDI, and organise the WEST MIDLANDS/EAST MIDLANDS /BEDFORDSHIRE STREET DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS competitions in Walsall, Bedford and Leicester, qualifying and non qualifying heats for dance schools within and surrounding areas of those boroughs. This to date continues to be largely successful.

Experienced in adjudicating, I have judged Freestyle and Street competitions in England, Ireland and Scotland. My biggest achievement was fulfilling the opportunity to conduct workshops in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

2021, with the easing of Covid 19 new classes started in Sandwell from June.
